Surroundings

The area offers plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and enjoying the Twente cultural heritage. In and around you can enjoy reading in the cottage; under the porch, in the cozy conservatory with wood stove in the living room or outside. The Writer's House is located in NorthEast Twente, on the border of Germany.

The village De Lutte is five minutes by car. In 15 minutes one is in the nearby town  of Oldenzaal, Enschede center is half an hour. A day in Amsterdam will take you two hours driving. Maastricht three hours driving. Public transportation; remember you are residing in the middle of the natural reserve, where busses ar not welcome. Bicycles can be rented in a nearby village called Beuningen, and sent home. Company: Twente Bikes.
De Lutte (municipality of Losser) is located east of Oldenzaal, and counted in 2014 according to the CBS 3680 inhabitants (of which 2405 in the heart of De Lutte). The village is not far from the last exit (No. 34) of the A1 before you drive into Germany. De Lutte is best known for the natural and recreational Lutterzand and some well-known hangouts like Landhuishotel De Bloemenbeek, Het Ros van Twente, estate site The Meuleman, Pavilion Lutterzand and Buitenplaats Florilympha. 

The nature Lutterzand 750 ha. large, extremely varied and freely accessible throughout the year. You can walk and bike. The most photographed is the famous bend in the Dinkel, 500 meters from the cottage. The river Dinkel, and at times wet river flows meandering through the area and makes for beautiful stretches of sand and spectacular calvings. Because the water Dinkel flowing at varying speeds, the bank is gradually eroded. That always gives a slightly different picture, but always impressive and restful. The nature and the rolling landscape is varied with pine trees, juniper and heath fields. It is for many birds of paradise. Dinkel is known as the domain of the sand martin and the kingfisher.

From the spring and on nice days you can reach the Lutte Hutte for a drink or an ice cream.
